Not In The Mood

Yesterday was a great day as we celebrated and rejoiced not only that Kai had a great night with no monitor alarms being set off, but it was our sweet AJ's 3rd birthday! We had a very small family celebration at home. He is definitely worthy of his own post, so I will leave that one for later.

Right now, I know that a few of you were expecting my Not Me, Monday! but I am so not in the mood. Kai's monitor went off ten (yes, you read that right!) times last night between midnight and 4:45 a.m, going down to the low 70's at one point. Each time I awoke and made note of the time and the numbers. I just don't understand how he could still have an obstruction when he slept so well for two nights.

A picture of Kai during his helicopter flight reading the "flight plan".

I am extremely frustrated, so say the least. He is on 3 medications to dry up secretions, along with an antihistamine, and is being suctioned 3-4 times a day. The ENT feels that the swelling, which should be down by now, along with the huge amount of mucous and secretions that he had are still a factor.

We were discharged and walked into our home in Fort Myers at 11:00 p.m. on Friday night. We are to return to Miami in one month for another sleep study and to check his ear tubes.

On a funny note, I had to a laugh (because if I don't laugh, I'll cry) when I was going through the 12 days of mail on Saturday, I noticed that the hospital bills arrived to our house before we did.

O,
He has had such a whirlwind of a time and the excitment of being with his family and AJs bday party maybe he was over-stimulated and moved around a lot during his sleep. I am sure that it happens even in the normal case. Ami moves around (and kicks) so much during her sleep.

Don't get discouraged !

Try to keep him calm today.

Hugs

I am so sorry to hear this and will continue praying for Kai. You have probably already read about Stellan (or maybe not with all of that laundry!) but he is in need of prayer as well. Hang in there my friend!

Ohilda,
Is he stuffy at all in his nose?? He may be stopping up on and off through the night(in his nose) forcing him to completely breath through his mouth. If you have any swelling etc.. and go on your back it will cause you to have sleep apnea and thus causing the desats. Hard to make a toddler sleep on his/her side. You might try putting a pillow under his back to prevent him from going completely on his back(trying to get him to stay on his side). Also get the kids breathe rite strip, I really think this would help. Still praying!!!

Hey Lady - love the face lift on the blog - and yeah....ain't hospital's grand at getting the bills out? :( As for Kai and the alarms - well - there's a message in that somewhere....I dunno what it is - but if I have a flash of insight I'll share! How's AG? Pretty cool that she was free enough to be mad at you (reading between the lines on the twitter) - really good, ya'll do such great work with the bonding and your kids!

(To quote one of my fav comic programs) "Hang in there - we're pulling for you - and we're all in this togheter". Hugs - prayers - and just enjoy a little peace, the rest will work out! Love you guys -

Ohilda....sweet friend...so sorry for all of this that you both are having to go through. Please know that I am praying for you and don't you worry a single second about those hospital bills! They are not going anywhere!!!

P.S. Something we were shocked with was Emma Jane's hospital bills when she had pneumonia. Her ambulance ride for 3 miles alone was $6,000.00...yea right! Anyway, for almost two years we paid the bare minimum payment to the hospital....because we just didn't have the money. Now we are headed into the mission field and are not allowed to have ANY debt whatsoever. Greg called Children's Hospital and asked them if there was anything they could do...do you know what they did??? There was a HUGE balance left and they told him if he would just pay $500.00 of it they would clear the account. Woo Hoo! Praising Him on this one for sure!
