To Catch A Thief

You see these beauties? Well, I was the proud owner of 9 of them!

First of all, I have the worst green thumb you could imagine. Everything I plant dies. I love fruit trees.

I can tell you that in the past 2 years, I've planted over 15 trees. How many survivors? Two! One is a very slow growing Persian lime tree that has given us 1 lime in two years, and the other was my pride and joy. A beautiful Florida peach tree that I planted last spring. I am so darn proud of that accomplishment!

A few months after planting the peach tree it began to bloom, and a couple of months after that, we had little peaches growing on them. I check the tree frequently and have been thrilled with the progress of my nine little treasures.

Well, today I went out to peek at them after we had a pretty big rainstorm and they were gone! GONE! Not as in laying on the ground, or eaten by birds or animals, or even blown off the tree gone. They were gone as in there was not a sign of a peach or pit anywhere!

Now, again, I don't know a whole lot about fruit trees being a city girl all my life, but I sure do know that they were pretty well attached to the flimsy little branches they were on, and the branches were not torn or for that matter even appeared to be pulled on. UGH!

I'd love to hear from those farming folks and those of you with green thumbs to help me solve my mystery. Do you think this could have been a thief of "nature", or was it just someone hoppin' into our yard and taking my almost-ready-to-eat, perfectly shaped and fuzzy peaches?!!!

UPDATE: Thanks to a neighbor, we have found the infamous thief of my peaches. Hmmm....don't feel too smart being outwitted by a rodent. And to think I used to like those critters.

Oh, no Ohilda! I am also not a green thumb so can't give you any clues...but I feel so badly that your long awaited fruit disappeared on you. Let us know what you find out.

Mmmmmmmmmm....peaches! Yummy! I wish I had some insight, but my thumb is as brown as they get. ;)
But, thanks for making me crave peaches and cream! ;)

Oh dear, my peachless friend, sorry to hear about your fuzzy loss. Did they seriously just disappear? No kids around? That is sooo not funny, after such a long wait.

Thinking of you, sorry I'm no help with your mystery.

Blessings~

Hey - find your way to cincinnati and I'll show you the best peach groves in the world - Ga included!

In the meantime - a bb gun with bb's and just a couple pumps (vs. the full 10) will sting their little rumps w/o killing them...take it from a guy married to a wife who is a recovering farm girl with green thumbs as big as Texas (and a hubby who really won't hunt things unless it's necessary!)

hugs -
